The following is the culmination of three years of graduate study in the field of library science. This project is designed to highlight my mastery of the fourteen competencies set forth by San José State University’s School of Information, a well-rounded view of skills necessary to be a competent and successful librarian. All competencies include a statement outlining my conception of the importance of the competency to librarianship. This is followed by descriptions of and links to class assignments which demonstrate that I have completed coursework which applies to the competency. Finally, I conclude each section by stating how, personally, these competencies have manifested themselves for me, and how they will impact my work in the future. The portfolio also includes my Statement of Professional Philosophy, highlighting experiences, works, and people that have shaped my thoughts on the profession of librarianship. The process has been a refreshing, at times challenging, exploration of my growth as a library science student and an affirmation that I am prepared for what lies ahead.
